Choices. We all have to make choices. The well-educated will undoubtably know how you go about making a big choice: You take every factor and you weigh them out to eachother. You naturally choose the one with as much pros and as little cons as possible. So there’s actually no choice to make, for ‘tis evident which one you’ll choose.
Then there’s small choices. Did you really choose the clothes you’re wearing? Maybe you’re just wearing it because you think others might like to see you in it, and: Suppose there was something much nicer in the store the day you bought these clothes, maybe you wouldn’t have bought these. So it might’ve just been chance.
And about ‘nicer’ clothes: One of the reasons you’re wearing your clothes is probably because they’re your taste. Did you choose your taste? I know I didn’t. I don’t know why I like something better than something else. So maybe our choices in taste are directly determined by our taste, which we don’t choose.
Then there’s chance. Is there such a thing as chance? Or is chance itself defined by certain factors? Well you roll a dice, the odds are equally distributed into sixths. If you keep on rolling that dice, the effective values will near one sixth. In other words: No matter what, you’ll always end up with sixths. That’s predefined.
How about the physics of rolling a dice? What number you get only depends on what happens to that dice. Certain factors decide on how you’ll throw that dice and others determine what happens to it when rolling. So is chance really determined or just an abstraction of a very broad combination of external factors? It’s simply too complicated for us to predict.
Now if everything depends on everything, and you run that back until the very beginning, you’ll have to conclude that everything is predefined. Therefore, the future is predefined. This is what people call destiny. Don’t think that you can’t change anything, or make choices, and that it’s all out of your hands, but everything that you do depends on who you are.
Mind-boggling, isn’t it? Now what does this mean? This means absolutely nothing. This article is completely negligible, unless it has an influence on you. So what will you do with this knowledge? It’s up to you. ;-)
